A recent study published March 16th, 2012 in Med India announced that three pharmaceutical firms in South Korea are on the brink of releasing a generic version of the sexual impotence drug Viagra. However, these pharmaceutical companies are in a lawsuit with Pfizer, the pharmaceutical giant, for creating the drug while Pfizer’s patent on its active ingredient, sildenafil, is active until May 2014. The pharmaceutical companies have responded that even if they end up paying compensation to Pfizer that they will not withhold from releasing their generic version of Viagra in the coming month or later. According to the article, the South Koreans have been trying to produce Viagra since 1999 and have reached the closest to its actual production.
