An article released in Science Daily on the 3rd of February revealed information about the discovery of a long-lived protein that may help researchers better understand the process of cell-aging and degenerative diseases, especially for the brain. Long-lived proteins are proteins that normally live during the whole life-time of the organism, found on the surface of the nucleus of neurons in the brain. By studying these proteins, the scientists on this study hope to discover properties about these proteins that they can implement into medicines or other forms of treatments for patients with mental degradation diseases or other protein degrading illnesses such as Parkinson’s. Such a feat would be remarkable in the world of medicine and a huge step in treating diseases such as Parkinson’s.
